Made the switch to Google Apps

A was a happy user of Horde for a few months, but finding the time to update, always the problem with fighting spam and others ….. . I wanted to change move it off my server to something else.

That something else was Google Apps. It enables you to use your own domain name with for instance gmail and google calendar. It’s all incorpareted with an easy way to sign up.

But for th email you need to change you MX records of your domain. But before you can do that you need to confirm that the domain is actually yours.

I did a complete setup for me personal with everything in about 1 hour and after that you could send emails, receive emails.

Only there is on issue migrating your old mails. This can be done by using Thunderbird and create a entry in Thunderbird for both your accounts(Old and New). If that is done move them to what ever folder you want. The thing with Thunderbird I haven’t tried out just been informed that it is possible.

In short outsourcing your email on a small base is very simple. If I want to add additional users its fairly simple. The maximum capacity if you don’t pay for it is 100 but you can request more.

Glad you switched to Apps Standard Edition. However, the maximum numbers of accounts you can create in the Standard Edition is no longer 100; about a year ago Google changed to 50.
