My new phone a HTC Hero

I have a HTC Hero now for a few weeks and I’m very pleased with it. It’s the best phone I had so far.

There is only set back is the alarm clock. It does not work even this very moment. I thought this: Fixing a Silent Alarm on HTC Hero, was a possible fix, no it wasn’t. Still looking for a solution now trying to set two alarm clocks as read on a forum in search for answer.

Dear Lazyweb: If there is a solution for the alarm clock please help me out on this one.

Do the alarms go off at all?

I have heard of some issues where the alarms don’t trigger at all, but I’ve not encountered it myself.

The post on my blog only applies when the alarms are triggering without sound. If they’re not triggering at all then it won’t make any difference, because the problem isn’t the volume setting.

Unfortunately I’ve not heard of any solutions to this, although one commenter mentioned a problem with the “firmware to speak with the hardware properly” causing “the software clock [to pause or switch] off after a period of time in standby mode”.

If correct, a fix would depend on the firmware being fixed, so you may want to try updating the phone to the latest firmware version.

Thx for the reply, I first had an issue with the sound. But now it isn’t triggered in standby mode.

Already have the latest firmware. Still looking for a other solution …

        Have the same problem ..
It only ads up to the frustration I have with the Hero..

I can only try to feel the pain you must have had with your previous phones if you call this one a good one :)

          Thx Kris,

I don’t have much frustation with the Hero, what are you issues? Everything works perfect for me except the alarm clock

We’ll the alarm is pretty much void ..

The call history only gives a date, rather than the exact time when someone called .

From selecting a number in your addressbook too actually have called it often takes 3-4 steps , usability on that part is pretty much zero.

And then there’s the lack of functional Bluetooth .. sure it works .. for about 50% of the things you are used to do with a phone , like browsing trough the addressbook from your car etc..

I can follow you in some points but those are not an issue with me I press telephone button and press in the name. It’s always been that way for me I think…

In overall I’m happy but waiting for the 2.1 version of android coming very soonsee here

The bluetooth part I have no issue worked directly in the car no issue there.

so apparently an opinion on the phone can differ ;)

I think the problem comes from the silent mode. The silent mode turns off the alarm volume.

    Here is my solution :
    - When you set the alarm, select the field «alarm sound»
    - Select a sound
    - Press the button to increase volume.

My sympathies. I threw my “hero” away after less than six months because it was the most hopeless device I ever owned. The evil capacitive touchscreen was flaky (as expected, I don’t know why people like them, they suck), battery life was ridiculous and it has the saddest excuse for the Bluetooth stack I’ve ever encountered. Worst of all, the device was a little too eager to share everything I thought with Google. Not that I have any illusions of privacy in connection with owning a mobile phone, but there’s something like “too much”.

Sorry I didn’t blog about the throwing away, so you could have read about it on planet grep and saved yourself the trouble. Perhaps you can still change your mind about the purpose?

I wouldn’t recommend a Google phone to my worst enemy (even if I could identify him or her).

    “Purchase” that should have been.

After a few months of use, you’ll start seeing the cons.
The device is definitely too slow. The keyboard often goes crazy.. I’ve owned my Hero for something like 6 months, I’m still doing as much typos as I did on day one, because of the random craziness (can’t count how many times i’ve gone “I WANTED TO DELETE ONE CHAR ONLY !! NOT THE ENTIRE F-ING SENTENCE !!!!”)
No USB tethering for Mac, no time in call logs, you have to use a separate app for that (like aContacts).
NO VOICE CONTROL. This means, when you’re in the car with your Bluetooth headset on, you have to pick up your phone and go through the dialer to make a call. WTF ? My 7 year old Ericsson T29 had the feature.
Not possible to disable wifi geolocation : in a single day I can be, according to Google, in Brazil, in the Emirates, India, Russia, Japan, Netherlands and Belgium.
You’ll notice when your phone says it’s 33°C in your current location while it’s barely 10°C.
I’ve seen people complaining about this because it messed up with their calendar timezone.
Oh, you can report inaccuracies but it’s ridiculously complicated (can’t find the google help page anymore).

If you follow the android project on google code, you’ll see how many rather serious bugs are affecting your OS, I wouldn’t want to see how people would whine if those issues affected a Microsoft product.
Last time I buy an android phone with a custom interface on top of it, the (ressource hog) Sense UI seems to be the reason for the delay in getting the upgrade.

Oh and I’ve had the alarm not ringing problem, but after using taskiller, which was the cause..
